Description
A toolkit for teachers
One of the many challenges facing a class teacher at the start of a new school year is getting to grips with the teaching of handwriting! In England, this process is usually driven by the requirements of the national curriculum framework and statutory assessment procedures.
However, in large mixed ability classes, there will be considerable variations in developmental readiness and in learning progress. These factors will also influence the teaching of handwriting, in order that individual learning needs are met. Successful teaching of any subject requires a fundamental understanding of the subject itself and how this relates to whole child development. As handwriting is such a highly complex skill, this is a tall order!
The NHA is often asked for a clear overview of what needs to be done, so we have put together a digital pack of resources designed to support teachers. The pack includes:
- Tips for Teaching: ‘P’ Checks (the factors which support the physical ‘process’ of handwriting)
- Tips for Teaching: ‘S’ Factors (the steps that need to be taken in teaching the ‘product’ of handwriting)
- Digital copy of ‘Good Practice for Handwriting’ poster
As many schools are facing budget cuts, the NHA would like to offer these resources FREE OF CHARGE to get the new term off to a good start.
