Pegs to Paper
Nurtures the development of the tripod grip and enhances cognitive development through physical activity.
Every child a writer
At Nexus we strive to design and develop educational products to improve the quality of learning for pupils of all ages. Our Pegs to Paper Scheme was developed by our Managing Director, Simon Jones, and designed in conjunction with Dr Angela Webb, Psychologist and Former Chair of the National Handwriting Association.
Pegs to Paper is a scheme designed to help pupils develop all aspects of learning to write, from developing a good pencil grip to letter spacing as well as letter formation and alignment.
“After years of making and designing triangular pens, pencils and hands-on quality products, I realised children’s handwriting and pencil grip was not improving. So, I spent the last eight years working with the National Handwriting Association, with doctors, teachers, advisors, OTs, designers and factories to find a solution. When I met Dr Angela Webb I realised we shared the same passion and our collaboration and research has lead to creating P2P together. Our evidence-based program guarantees visible improvement in early years leaning within 6 weeks, and is designed and tested in the UK”
Simon Jones, Managing Director of Nexus The Educators Connection
“In a ‘time short’ environment teachers appreciate it when companies’ schemes and resources are supported by easy to read training packages and support instructions. This has been very much the case with Pegs to Paper. Through the child-initiated play they further embedded skills of hand-eye coordination, grip, concentration, matching etc.”
Helen Sowden, Headteacher of Ann Edwards C of E Primary School
“By using these cards [Pegs to Paper Scheme Work cards] with the board, several supporting skills are nurtured: first listening to the instructions, then carrying them out in physical form. Next, repeating what has been done using the language provided in the instruction, and finally, drawing the pattern on to a 10 x 10 dots sheet. This sequence of ‘Listen, DO, SAY and DRAW’ is crucial element of the programme and should be the way of working throughout the series of exercise”
Dr Angela Webb, Psychologist and Former Chair of the National Handwriting Association
And it is not just the adults noticing a positive impact Pegs to Paper has …
“I think my handwriting looks better because I’ve got finger spaces and I form my letters better”
Boy from Year 3 with Dyslexia, Middle Park Primary School
In the space of one month a SEND Year 1 pupil managed to improve his writing from Evidence A to Evidence B.
