NHA Twilight: From Foundations to Fluency – What does the Writing Framework ask us to rethink across the phases?
Virtual Event
Monday 5th October 2026 at 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
What empowers a learner to become a fluent writer?
This session looks at the Writing Framework through the lens of the National Handwriting Association, following the journey from EYFS through to KS3. We’ll explore the role of handwriting, transcription, automaticity, stamina and composition, and consider how these demands change as learners move through the phases.
We’ll also look at some of the practical implications for pupils who find writing more difficult, including those with SEND, and consider what the developing curriculum landscape may mean for schools, practitioners and others supporting written communication.
The session is led by Johanna Morris, an experienced SENCO who has worked across key stages and brings a practical, enthusiastic and strongly learner-centred perspective to the discussion.
