NHA Twilight: Motivating the Reluctant Writer
Virtual Event
Monday 22nd June 2026 at 7:00 pm to 8:00 pm
Join Caroline McHugh, Occupational Therapist and Vice Chair of the National Handwriting Association, for an engaging and practical twilight session designed to support educators, parents and caregivers in unlocking children’s potential as writers.
This session will explore what it means to be a reluctant writer and why some children find writing difficult. Caroline will help you recognise the key signs of reluctance, understand the underlying factors (including sensory, emotional and cognitive influences), and reframe writing difficulties with empathy and insight.
Participants will leave with a range of practical, evidence-informed strategies to motivate and support children who struggle with handwriting. The session will focus on building confidence, reducing anxiety and creating more accessible and engaging writing experiences across home and school environments.
This is a highly practical session with real-world strategies you can implement immediately.
