SUMMARY:NHA AGM and Presentations via Zoom
DESCRIPTION:Our AGM and presentations for members will be held via Zoom. Presentations will take place from 11am to 1pm\, followed by our AGM at 1pm. \n11am Presentation: Helping Handwriting Shine (HHS): Experiences from a Randomised Controlled Trial of a School-Led Method of Intervention \nHHS is a task-oriented\, metacognitive approach based on the latest available evidence\, which aims to help students develop automatic and efficient handwriting. This project aimed to equip teachers and teaching assistants with techniques typically applied by Occupational Therapists\, and evaluated this school-led method of intervention. 100 schools participated in the Education Endowment Foundation funded study in 2018–2019. Two versions were tested: a universal approach for whole class groups in Year 2\, and a targeted approach for small groups of students in Year 5. The primary outcome for the trial is a measure of writing composition using a method of comparative judgement\, alongside an implementation and process evaluation completed by the National Foundation for Education Research.  The results of the evaluation are due later this year. Em and Jo worked as Research Fellows at the University of Leeds on the intervention arm of the trial and discuss their experiences and some of the key questions\, such as the process of change and issues related to training\, and whole class versus small group intervention. \nThe speakers are Dr Emily A Williams\, Postdoctoral Research Fellow\, University of Leeds & Bradford Institute for Health Research and Jo Atkinson\, Lecturer/Occupational Therapist\, Faculty of Health Studies\, University of Bradford \n12 noon Presentation from Nexus \nNexus make learning products for home and school and have developed a progressive handwriting system in partnership with Dr Angela Webb\, the former chair of the National Handwriting Association. \n1pm National Handwriting Association AGM \n\n \n  \n
