DESCRIPTION:Why do people think left-handers always have messy writing?\n\n\n\nWhy do people think teaching left-handers is difficult?\n\n\n\nHow is the left-hander’s body involved in handwriting\, including pencil grip and posture? \n\n\n\nHow can the writing implement and paper position affect writing fluency and efficiency? \n\n\n\nWhat alternative letter forms should be considered to help the left-hander establish greater legibility at speed?\n\n\n\n\n \n\n\n\nPresented by Specialist Teacher and former NHA Chair (2021–22)\, Amanda McLeod\, this webinar will provide you with the knowledge needed to help the left-hander in class or at home. The webinar will be practical so get ready to participate with pen\, paper\, samples of writing and questions! It is open to all\, including teachers\, parents\, and occupational therapists. \n\n\n\nAlthough predominantly focused on handwriting acquisition in the primary school age groups\, the information provided can be used to address many common handwriting difficulties regardless of age group. \n\n\n\nAbout the presenter: Amanda McLeod is the author and series consultant to the publisher Scholastic for its Handwriting series from Nursery to Reception. DESCRIPTION:The National Handwriting Association is pleased to host the 2026 Handwriting Symposium at Liverpool John Moores University. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSpeakers\n\n\n\nDr Tim Mills MBE\n\n\n\nLead Author of The Department of Education’s Writing Framework \n\n\n\nThis session will aim to bust the myths about The Writing Framework and offer clarity on on the implementation of the framework in schools.  \n\n\n\nProfessor Anna Barnett\n\n\n\nAuthor of MABC‑3 and DASH‑2 \n\n\n\nProfessor Barnett will introduce the updated Detailed Assessment of Speed of Handwriting (DASH‑2) and explain how it can be used across different levels of assessment in both school and clinical settings.  \n\n\n\nProfessor Jill Zwicker\n\n\n\nProfessor of Occupational Therapy\, developmental neuroscientist\, and author of Write Like A Pro! \n\n\n\nProfessor Zwicker will share evidence on interventions that support motor learning in children\, with a particular focus on handwriting. She will present findings from her research and provide an overview of her Write Like A Pro! targeted programme for handwriting. \n\n\n\nSarah Reay\n\n\n\nClass teacher\, specialist assessor\, SENCO\, Senior Lecturer\, and Head of Professional Services at PATTOSS Dyslexia Charity \n\n\n\nThis session will focus on accommodations for writing during periods of transition.   \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe symposium also provides opportunities to hear about research on handwriting versus typing in adolescents with handwriting difficulties\, as well as chances to ‘bring a problem’ and get advice on it.
