Learn & Go is a French company, and the creator of Kaligo, the first digital handwriting notebook designed to teach children between 3 and 8 years old how to write using a stylus and tablet.
Inclusive by design and built on an Artificial Intelligence machine learning platform, Kaligo enables teachers to customise and personalise learning plans for every child’s needs. Students work at their own pace and receive real-time corrective feedback according to their progress. This immersive approach helps children concentrate and learn to assimilate new information.
How was Kaligo founded?
Learn & Go responded to a tender from the French government for innovative projects in e-education. The brief was to look at how digital solutions could revolutionise how children learn the fundamentals of reading and writing at school. A collaborative research project (lead by IntuiScript) was submitted and won. This solution would teach cursive and script handwriting at schools. The final result is Kaligo.
Experts, teachers and researchers were involved in completing the design phase. This was followed by in-class experiments using a workshop format with children and teachers. These experiments allowed the team to gain real insights from a user’s point-of-view and adapt the application accordingly. The IntuiDoc research team led by Professor Eric Anquetil, INSA, France, developed the key innovative differentiator: the capability to provide immediate and precise feedback to the child’s work.
Kaligo in English
The same in-depth approach has been applied to the development of Kaligo in English. The team worked with English teachers and academic experts to collect specific gestures, strokes and handwriting approaches so that Kaligo can be implemented as part of the British curriculum. Gathering data and strokes feeds the AI machine learning engine in order to provide the choice of letter styles, writing schemes and the ability to track a student’s progress and results. It is this comprehensive and immersive experience that makes Kaligo unique.
The AI machine learning platform allows teachers to customise and personalise learning plans for individual students. The student receives real-time corrective feedback on their progress. Any challenges result in additional exercises until the skill has been mastered.
